School-based Reading Scheme
Goal: To promote and encourage students to become self-motivated lifetime learners by nurturing autonomous reading habits through an all encompassing school based and individual reading programme.
Programme details
Secondary 1
Students are required, within the school year, to choose a book from five different categories out of eight. They are required to read all 5 of these books using an appropriate reading strategy. Students are selectively chosen to present in a sharing session. Students will be awarded a certificate and book coupon as rewards for an outstanding presentation.
Secondary 2
Students are required, within the school year to choose a book from four different categories out of ten. The remaining books students have to read can be chosen by themselves. They are required to read a total of five books each year. They are selectively chosen to present their book in a sharing session. Students will be awarded with a certificate and book coupon as a reward for an outstanding presentation.c
Secondary 3
Students are required, within the school year, to choose a book from two different categories out of ten. Students are required to read a total of four books each year. Student is free to choose one Chinese book and one English book to round up their selection. They are selectively chosen to present their book in a sharing session. Students will be awarded with a certificate and book coupon as a reward for an outstanding presentation.
Secondary 4 and 5
Students may freely choose books from different categories to read during the morning reading period on Wednesday morning. Each student is required to present their book during an in-class or interclass sharing session. Students are required to register the name of the book that they share and the date on which they present the book in an online sharing form. Students will be awarded with a certificate and book coupon as a reward for outstanding presentation.
Secondary 6
Students are required to read any self-selected books or reading materials provided by the school during the morning reading period on Wednesday morning.
